An Overview
Economic development and business attraction is changing cross the industry as markets and communities quickly shift from an incentive-driven, jobs, location, and capital investment focused approach to development to a more wholistic understanding of individual communities. A renewed focus on “soft benefits” such as quality of life, quality of place, and access to workforce has changed the economic development landscape and prompted communities to reevaluate their business attraction strategies and toggle between direct and indirect marketing efforts. Additionally, any of our communities are focused on redevelopment, which is a new approach for the county.
The Fort Bend EDC is changing as well, welcoming a new county department of economic development and opportunity, engaging a firm (in partnership with the county) to study our community and develop a strategic plan, recommitment to advocacy for quality education and flood management efforts, and repositioning staff and resources to best meet the needs of the stakeholders and community at large.
We are developing change, proactively positioning Fort Bend County and the Fort Bend EDC to succeed in this new development landscape. The FBEDC remains focused on moving forward in an impactful and strategic way to ensure Fort Bend County remains Greater Houston's Finest Address.
